This was the headline in the MIAMI HERALD 30 years ago, when Gloria Diaz of the Philippines was crowned the 18th Miss Universe.

Did you know that Gloria charmed - and disarmed - the audience and host Bob Barker, when during the on-stage interview competition, she quickly named her nine brothers and sisters?

To celebrate Gloria's 30th anniversary, here is a picture of her in her national costume. Gloria also gives us the occasion to mark Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage month here in the U.S.A.
