Birthplace: Meadville, PA

Ethnicity: White

Occupation: Actor

Executive summary: Basic Instinct
Sharon Stone is an actress and former model. Blond-haired and blue-eyed, long-legged, large-breasted, beautiful and blond, she was Miss Crawford County for 1975, and the queen of her high school's spring festival. She reportedly worked at a local McDonald's before being hired as a model at age 19.
By her early 20s she was a high-paid cover girl, and she made her film debut in 1980 as a beautiful blonde in the distance in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories. Stone's first famous role came ten years later, in Total Recall, as Arnold Schwarzenegger's double agent wife. In 1992, a fleeting glimpse of her naughty bits in Basic Instinct made her a star. The film was somewhat controversial, both for Stone's vaginal view and because her character, suspected of murder, was bisexual.
Responding to persistent rumors of 'bimbohood', Stone told reporters that she was in fact a member of MENSA, with an IQ if 148. She stuck with that story for several years, until MENSA's national marketing director pointed out loudly that she was not a member, and had never been.
Joe Eszterhas, who wrote the screenplay for Basic Instinct, has written that Stone said "thank you" for the script by sleeping with him. Stone, Eszterhas says, was so despised by co-workers that on one of her films, crew members took turns urinating in her bathtub.
Stone was a major Hollywood player for a few years in the 1990s, although she never had a major hit except in more famous actors' movies, like Schwarzenegger's Total Recall, Michael Douglas' Basic Instinct, Sylvester Stallone's The Specialist, and Robert De Niro's Casino.
In 2001, Stone suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage -- bleeding between the brain and the middle membrane covering the brain. She spent two weeks in the hospital before being pronounced "completely intact neurologically" and released. Also in 2001, her then-husband, San Francisco Chronicle publisher Phil Bronstein, was bitten by a five-foot Komodo dragon while they took a private tour of the Los Angeles Zoo.
In 2002, Stone publicly sported a black eye after being punched in the face by her 18-month-old adopted son.
In 2004, at age 46, Stone played the bad girl in Catwoman. She has also announced that she will star in a sequel to Basic Instinct, a project involving neither Eszterhas nor Douglas.
Stone once recited John Lennon's "Imagine" from the podium at an AIDS fundraiser, causing many in the audience to scratch their heads, trying to fathom any connection between AIDS and Lennon's lyrics.
